Wow, great scrapbooking day yesterday and today, I am hosting VSBN at SCS from 1-3 p.m. CST. Come play with me!!! Upload your page to SCS or post a comment to a link on your blog. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!!!
Yesterday I got four cards done and five scrapbook pages. Two were digital. Yes! I was and am quite happy with my accomplishments. I’ll share them with you throughout the week.
In two weeks there’s a two day crop but I’m not sure if I’ll go the two days. I might just do the Saturday. Two days seem too many! I did it a few months ago at two different places and I wasn’t very productive the second day. I wasn’t inspired. But, we’ll see.
This card was a card that I made for my scrapbook blog sisters’ swap. The theme was summer. What do you think? Summery enough?
Well, I better go. I need to chat with the other ladies in the forum. Hope to see you there or see your work uploaded to SCS with JUN08VSBNN as the keyword or link here.
If you’re a regular here, you know that I like all sorts of scrapbooking and card making. But since this post is specifically created for the PaperTrey Ink June (transparency challenge) blog hop, let me tell you this: I am a hybrid crafter (besides the regular paper scrapbook and card making).
What is that? Besides using the regular paper and glue I also use digital products. In essence hybrid crafters are those who combine digital and traditional methods of paper crafting. So for today’s blog hop, I hope that I can inspire you to try hybrid out. It’s super easy and you might already be doing it (printing clip-arts or printing out your sentiments).
The tutorial and the method I used today was done in Photoshop CS3 and I used a Photoshop brush for one of my element BUT, you don’t have to have Photoshop to print on transparency (you do need Photoshop though to use Photoshop brushes). You can just uses Word, WordPerfect, Neo (Mac only)/OpenOffice (FREE!), etc. and print on to a transparency using images, text, dingbats, or clip-art (use your favorite search engine to find many free fonts, clip-arts or dingbats — check out DaFont or ScrapVillage, they are two of my favorite free font/dingbat sites).
This first card, Hello Thinking of You, I used four pieces of transparencies. The first is the bird and that’s from My Mind’s Eyes, the second is the greenish white piece of painted transparency, the third are two stamped PTI images from the Shape by Design set, and the flowers. The other elements… well… uhm… they’re scraps from other projects. I have here some Stampin’ Up! paper, Tinkering Ink, PaperTrey, and Sassafrass Lass. The lace was from WalMart and the staples are just good ol’ regular staples (notice there’s a PTI transparency on the top right behind those layers).
For the transparencies, let me start with the bird since it’s the easiest part {::SMILES}. All I did was cut. The material is thick so you got to really mean it and be careful but it wasn’t hard, just need some patience. The transparency background, I used a coat of yellow acrylic paint, a coat of crackling paint, a coat of green and then I caked on (on some parts) some white. The paint I used was half Making Memories and the other just a less expensive brand from WalMart. I think they’re the same but who knows but, for this type of projects, any acrylic paint will do. If you look close, the crackling only occurs on the area that has more paint, which I wanted it to do, so I’m ok with it but if you want full crackling, make sure you cover it well with paint and wait for each coat to dry before moving on (I used my embossing gun to speed it up, ha!).
The PTI stamped image. I just used my black Stampin’ Up! stamp pad for this. You really need to let it dry before touching it. I stamped this image Monday night, I was in no hurry so I just let it air dry. Then the flower… I used Photoshop’s brush for this. Unfortunately I have no idea which brush it is or where it is from but if you Google for Photoshop brushes, you’ll come up with a lot of them (or go to Brusheezy which is one of my favorite free brush site). So, for this one (unless you’re familiar with Photoshop and brushes) please watch the video.
The second card is pretty simple and I created this for those who just says NO to any computer stuff {::SMILES}. I had one extra circle stamped transparency and I just modified the card that I did yesterday for the Split Coast color challenge. If you look at the butterfly, you can see that it has the same stamped image as the transparency. I used Martha Stewart’s (EK Success) butterfly punch to create this butterfly. First stamp then punch. Put it all together and you’ll get this card.
Thanks for stopping by! Have a great blog hopping night and I hope to participate and “see” you all again next month! Oh, if you have ANY question, please feel free to either comment here or send me a personal email using the Contact form above. I’ll reply back as soon as I can!
I got two cards put together. Yeah!!! This first one I did Tuesday night and the other one, the blue cardstock base, I did last night. They’re super quick cards because I was only in my craft room for a few minutes. I smuggled myself in there {::SMILES}.
As you can see they’re super simple. The material for this tan card is:
Paper: SU Kraft paper
Ribbon: Offrey grossgrain
Ink: Chocolate chip
Stamp: A*Muse Clear stamp and SU Dots
I created this card for my blog sisters’ swap BUT, I fail to remember the theme: SUMMER. So… no can do. This looks awefully, fall, don’t you think? One thing about this stamp set… I LOVE A*Muse’s clear sets. They stamp SOOOO well!! They’re not like some clear stamps where it just doesn’t stamp clean, which I hate. I want to buy more!
Due to my lack of attention to details, I have to think of another card design for my swap. Pressure, pressure! Due date’s the 20th!!
This second card I made just because although I might use it for another swap that I have here locally. Again, the theme is: SUMMER, and I think this is more summery than my first try. Yes?
The material:
Cardstock: SU Whisper White and Soft Sky
Ribbon: From Michael’s (on sale last week for $1!)
Stamps: SU’s Always, Dots, and PaperTrey
Ink: Regal Rose, Old Olive, and some blue one (ha, so bad me!)
Tools: Corner rounder for the scallops, piercing tool, and Stamp-a-Majig
These are just two items I want to share today. Two super simple cards that you can do under five minutes and with the right touch of ribbons they become more jazzy. Yes, I am a ribbon freak-o {::SMILES}.
I am quite behind. I have six swap cards to make and my scrapbook page for the Scrapperie contest. I haven’t even touched that last item. Ta-ta for now. More later!
Did this card for the color challenge at kwernerdesign. I did it really quick. Didn’t really have time to think of the design/layout. I really like the colors and want to participate. My first time trying out her color challenge.
I did substitute Sahara Sand with Craft paper. I don’t have Sahara Sand. Everything is by Stampin’ Up! except for the sentiment which is PaperTrey’s. I used the distressing tool to distress the so saffron paper and then paper pierced it. The stamp set is Garden Silhouettes.
I did this for SCS’s Try a New Technique challenge. This week is a gift card holder. I LOVE it! Because I loved it so much, I made two!
The first one, the red dots background (I did myself by the way {::SMILE}) is actually M’s. Well, she claimed it. I felt bad, I always make cards for others but hardly for her and so I said sure as long as she takes good care of it. She said she will. So she has it now. The stamp is one of the new Bella stamps that I got earlier this month. I just haven’t had the occasion to use it. The dots and the sentiment is from PaperTrey and the rest is Stampin’ Up! I think I kind of combined a few challenges from last week on this. I used black to highlight my red cardstock and made my own BG paper.
If you haven’t done any challenges, you should. It always gets me motivated and help think outside the box and try something new.
The second card I did with a new Digi Chick kit: Total “Mom” - Sense Collaboration Kit. Awesome kit for digi AND hybrid. I’m not kidding you. Even if I’m not a CT for TDC, I’d be bragging about this kit. I’ve only used a tiny portion of this huge kit and I can do A LOT of cool pages and cards not mentioning digital project with this one kit. Mother’s day is coming around the corner!!
I wish my hubby makes cards. He’s only made me one card all the times we’ve been together. I’ll have to show you that sometimes. Kind of cute in a manly way, ha ha! It was sweet and I always look at it. It is after all, the ONLY card hand crafted by him.
Below is how the inside look. I didn’t do a lot of decorating but of course you can. Check out the SCS gallery for all the submissions to this challenge.
It was an odd day yesterday. I had a headache, which went away after a nap and some pills, but my throat just hurt. My sore throat happened Tuesday night. I feel fine now, just still hacking a bit. I wonder if it’s because people’s been (including the husband) burning around our house. We burnt off our field and the neighbors did the same. Not sure if it’s a country thing or it’s just something everybody wanted to do the last few days. I am sensitive to smoke. I can’t be in a smoking section at a restaurant, pass by people who are smoking, or enjoy a bar/club. I wasn’t always like this, more so after I had M. I’m glad they passed the no smoking in Kansas City. Maybe it’ll spread to our little college town. Hmmm…
We got home yesterday, right at 5 p.m. My last session, on Joomla CMS and WordPress/Mu, went really well and a lot of people seemed to have gotten a lot of info from myself and also others attending. That’s what I love about conferences, other people to physically share information with (instead of my Twitter and Ning virtual buddies). I also had Internet access — wish I had this the other day too. Oh well…
The first thing I wanted to do when I got home was go into my arts and crafts room. I’ve been itching to make something but of course I had to be responsible. Also, I got some new stamps. I have the stamps from H&M, the new stamp company that’s coming up in May that I’m the guest CT of, and also some goodies from PaperTrey Ink. Plus, I have new circle Nestabilities from Cutathome (40% off!). They’ve been on back order but I wasn’t in a hurry so I didn’t care when they’d show up. But I’m glad they did, it’s fun to play with them. So now I can stamp — well, I can do more after I grade {::SMILES}. Since it’s’ a weekend, and I did miss last week’s, I went to Beate’s site and did her sketch challenge for this week. This was a HARD sketch. I’m not use to having these types of intersections.
I used all sorts of brands for this card:
Stamps: H&M Dad’s Outdoors and PaperTrey Favor It Wedding Stamp Set
Cardstock: Stampin’ Up! carft, green galore, pink pixie, and black paper
Pattern Paper: KI Memories Chill Out Ticking and Flair Design Paradise Paisley
Ribbon: SU
Eyelets: Making Memories
Tools: Corner rounder, Crop-a-Dile, Nestabilities, ATG glue gun, SU Markers and paper piercing tool
Markers: SU
The top square cardstock is 3×3 and the pattern paper is 2.75×2.75
The bottom rectangle is 3×3.5 and the pattern paper is 2.75×3.25
Ok, so the boots are from a manly stamp set BUT, M has boots similar to this… I scrapbooked it even (I’ll show you later) and I thought hmmm… these boots can be used for so many things. I wish I had a stamp set that says “Perfect Pair” but this will do. I love the colors and the boots turned out so cute in green and pink (M’s colors). I’ll have more to show this month and next from H&M.
Have a great weekend!! I have a few video tuts in mind… and part II of the part I I did. Hopefully this weekend I’ll be able to whip one out.
This is the other page that I did for the Scrap Artist challenge. I thought I was suppose to do two pages from whatever kit and not one from my own kit and one from the freebie kit. Last night at midnight was the cut-off date and time. I’m just waiting to see what the results are. You can see the submissions in their gallery. Quite a bit, huh? Not hoping much, but we’ll see. Like I said, I had fun, got some LOs done, AND got a free kit. What else can I ask, right?
The Internet is a BAAAAD thing for me. Especially now that I’m so into challenges and contests AND blog candies. I’ve never gotten anything from the last but it was still always fun to participate in all and hope that maybe one day I can get some cool freebie. I can’t do them all but I’m trying to do something from the different ones that I love. Prima has a new monthly sketch contest now. It’s called Prima’s Build-a-Page. You get prizes. Just don’t forget to submit your layout by the 25th. I love the sketch and I have the perfect photos — just found them last night {::SMILES}.
Do you know that PaperTrey has a blog hop contest each month on the 25th? I just found out today but I might try it for next month. I love their stuff. If you have a blog and either have or will be getting some PTI stuff, watch our for April’s hop. Should be fun. I should put it in my calendar, huh? {::SMILES}
Ok, have a great day. We just did our taxes yesterday and I feel so good (although both our muscles were tense during the process). I hate tax time. It was also nice too that we didn’t have to pay. I think the tax people made a mistake but whatever, they did check two-three times. I’ll let you know if we go to prison, ha! It might not be bad… more time to scrapbook and make cards… ha ha ha… I wonder if I’d be able to blog too… ok… enough of that… laters…
