Happy (belated) Chinese New Year!

Posted on | January 27, 2009 | 8 Comments

Hey Funky Wow! I am a bad person. I totally forgot!! I think the only Chinese thing in me is the fact that I LOVE Chinese food. I think it was my great-great-great grandparents (although I wouldn’t be surprised if there needs to be another “great” added on to the above) who left China and being Indonesian-Chinese during colonial time in Indonesia my family’s more Dutch than Chinese. But, even so, we’ve always celebrated Chinese new year. In the U.S. I am far from any relative. The closest is in Chicago and we’ve never met but we love to email each other and hope to one day meet up. So my Chinese-ness has gone south. Either way, Gong Xi Fat Chai!

I have nothing Chinese new year to share today. Just a sassy page of Miss. M. I created this page based on the Creative Type’s challenge for this week: Retro. Check it out, submit something, a page/card/anything, with them to win an awesome prize. For this page, I used a kit by Jofia (currently at Shabby Pickle). I haven’t used her work in a while.

To get your started, I have a few links to share, free Retro fonts/clip-art:

Have a great one!

We’re Having a Baby…

Caffeine card first… this is up at Use Your Type. It’s this next two week’s challenge and the theme is: Resolution with focus on type. Since I had, and still have, none this was what I came up with. Compare to the rest of the team, mine is LAME!! I am relying on coffee for 2009!!!! Oh well… to the news… the stamp is A*Muse and colored with Copic markers.

Ok.. first the story… and if you haven’t seen the card for THE occasion and a bit of a background, it’s here and oh, don’t forget to peak in the inside.

The appointment was at 1:30 p.m. Saturday and everything went smoothly. We have a DVD of the whole thing but I won’t post that. Later I’ll do a scrapbook page and I’ll share that instead. After the appointment we went to Bo Ling’s for some Dim Sum. I chose Bo Ling’s because we haven’t gone in a loooong time and it’s everybody’s favorite. If it was our first child we’d probably go for the Skies Restaurant or this place I’ve been wanting to go: Blue Bird Bistro (although Le Fou Frog is another yummy option. Hmm, if it was our first kid we’re probably restaurant hop before opening the card, ha!!!) but Bo Ling’s it was. After everything, but our tea, was cleared we did the following:

Me: (Looking at Drew) We’re going to have M open the card
Drew: Ok, that’s fine
M: Give me the card, daddy
Me: Are your hands clean? Let me see them?

M showing us her hands, front and back
Drew dipped a napkin in one of the drinking cups and wiped.
Drew then opened the card, took the ultrasound picture out, placed it upside down, and stuck the card back in the envelope.

Drew: Here’s the card

Drumrolls…. M, slowly (to us at least) opening.

M: I know what it is… (sing songy – ala M)
Me: Ok, read it
M: It’s a boy

Drew and Me: What, really?

Both of us slapped (literally) the card down on the table.

Checked: NOT a boy.

Drew grabbed the ultrasound picture and sure enough, on it: LABIA and the picture (the kid wasn’t shy).

So for five seconds (maybe less) the child was a boy. But in reality, and the picture clearly told us too, that it’s a girl. Drew was disappointed (for a good minute or two). He got his hopes up the first few seconds. He’s fine either way but the few seconds of boy news made his stomach turn when he read that it’s a girl. I think my disappointment would last longer if she’s a he, oh, a good five minutes longer {::SMILES}.

Due date: still somewhere around June 3rd.

Lesson learned: When working with a child who cannot read make sure you get into all the details such as “the checked word IS the one.”

Conclusion: We’re all happy. M can’t wait to see her. She really thought that we were going to “see” the baby Saturday. The idea of an ultrasound just went over her head. I could have had another order of siu mai. I am going to buy me some girlie looking gDiaper covers, ha!

Everything that this palm and face reader friend said of me have came true (some quite accurate). The last prediction I’ll have to wait until I’m old. She said I’ll live a long and comfortable life and on my last day I’ll have my family around me. Man, I wish I remember her name… she was my college friend.

My psychic mom… for once she’s wrong {::SMILES}.

Today, I don’t show much still. Yesterday I had five bowls of soup and two sandwiches and I looked pregnant but today, they’ve all digested (I think I pee’d most of it out) and so I’m back to looking like I had a bit too much at the buffet. Maybe tomorrow? Hoping {::SMILES}.

Election Day

Posted on | November 4, 2008 | 6 Comments

You Were Born Wow, this is soooo suspenseful! Waiting for the results and just getting itty bitty pieces here and there is driving me nuts!!! But at the same time I can’t quit! I should just go to bed and wake up knowing more for sure who the next president will be. Loosing shouldn’t be a huge thing since my candidates didn’t win the last two elections. I know what it’s like to loose, ha!

Did you vote today? I hope you did!! No matter who you lean more towards and what the outcome is I think it’s great thing to do as a citizen. If not, that’s ok, maybe next time {::SMILES}. My line was tiny. There were four people in front of me. I think I waited for a minute… two at the most! Country living I tell you {::SMILES}. M voted too. Her whole class did actually, all but one voted for the donkey.

This is a page that I did for the Creative Type team. The prompt for this week is to mix it up so ladies, try it out and use up those extra fonts that you have laying around here and there. I know you have them! You can win some yummy goodies!!!

Another Year

Posted on | October 7, 2008 | 18 Comments

IMG_9930ps Some years ago (I forgot the exact number, ha!) today I was born. Since Either I don’t trust my birth certificate, I’m in denial or I have a very selective case of amnesia, I am forever 25. That’s how old I am today, and last year, and the year before {::SMILES}.

I was going to do a blog candy today but I forgot to gather up all the goodies and take pictures before I left. So Thursday expect some goodness from me. Just a hint, there will be stamps, some papers, and more. Until then, enjoy this card that I created which was inspired by Creative Type prompt #4: Create your own type. Check it out, it’s super fun and the prize is awesome!! I used my KnK for the LN, U, and asterisk and cut the heart from felt. There’s the word “much” under the love too.

Actually there is a story behind the asterisk. Hubby and I met three weeks before he had to leave for Kuwait. While he was away we’d email and once a week he’d call me (yes, he used his once a week phone opportunity to call me!). Well, somehow or another one of us started to write “like*.” It’s like those disclaimers you know: Payment of $650* and then you’d go down the bottom to read the little fine details. So to emphasize how much we liked each when the word love wasn’t quite an option we used like*. I’m sure you all have silly stories like that {::SMILES}.

For this card I used pattern paper from KI, Making Memories charm (super old), felt, M’s rhinestone (ha, mama stole one from her), button, ribbon and SU cardstock.

Ok, have a great evening. Still in Springfield and leaving for dinner in a bit. Maybe after dinner I’ll do a digi page. We’ll see… or maybe go to sleep, ha!

What’s Your Type?

Posted on | September 15, 2008 | 4 Comments

My Type: Underwood Mine is Underwood {::SMILES}. I am sooooo behind! I was suppose to post this last week but goodness, it just slipped my mind. BUT, you still have time for this challenge and the prize is oh so yummy too from Jen Geigley! Jen is uber talented. She’s a DT at the Red Velvet Kit Club and just love her style. I’ve been eyeing some RV kit too but not yet, not yet. One at a time I say. So come on, deadline is Sept. 20th at noon EST (11 CT, 10 MST)!! You don’t have to create a scrapbook page. It can be a card, an ATC, anything with YOUR type all over it!

Ok… related to this late posting… I am a bit overwhelmed. Got a lot to do!! It’s partly my part for procrastinating but I got everything done over the weekend: grading, swap cards for GSG, shopping (I hate home shopping!), community supper, and some bathroom painting. Oh, spending time with M and getting her some tennis shoes. This coming few weeks isn’t super relaxing either since I need to take 12 hours of Continuing Ed for my real estate license before the end of the month. I usually get it done in one day but I’m just not motivated.

I just want to do arts and crafts!!!! {::SMILES}. I’ve downloaded so much crap in this last few weeks. Not just the DigiChick’s stuff that I’m a CT in but all sorts of other stuff from other (awesome) designers. They’re all for hybrid projects or digi when I feel like it.

Ok, enough complaining… a lot to do and not enough time… especially when all you want to do is work on projects!!

Material:

One of my FAVORITE digi designer right now… Paislee Press: {Falling} for Retro. Obviously I’ve only used less than a hanful of her product. Her paper… OH SO AWESOME for digi/hybrid. No, I’m not her CT!
