IKEA Bookcase

Posted on | November 7, 2010 | 6 Comments

Hi!! Hope you all had a great Saturday! We sure did!! The bonfire + fireworks at our friends’ were great. There were mixed reviews on the Smores. Some, most of the kids, thought it was great and some other thought it was just a bit odd and overall too sweet. Whether they liked the Smores or not we all had fun toasting marshmallows! Jovie was ok for the most part but then the fireworks got loud and got scared but with some love she was fine. She eventually fell asleep. I would too if I were in her seat. She had a Wallaboo and Thermolite lined coat so she was cozy in front of the fire.

Today I want to share the above photo. M did that with Jovie and while M wanted to share it with the world, Jovie wasn’t on the same boat as her sister it seemed. Jovie kept grabbing at it and looking cross. I hope they’ll be more in agreement next time {::SMILE}. All the “noodles” as M call them were Jovie’s and the rest, the mix media and coloring, were M’s. The girls spent a good 15-min on this. I was surprised that Jovie kept going at it with sissy.

Then I want to ask those who has an IKEA Expedit… do you store everything you have except for paper in it? I am trying to decide how many drawers and doors I need or go with baskets. I’m also trying to figure out if I need the big 5×5 cubbies or go with a smaller one. I have wall space for either but if I get the smaller one I can fit a chair in the room but I might need that extra space. I think everything I have will fit best in a 5×5 although if I have to I can do with a 4×5 and other arrangements. It’s not that I use the chair but if I can’t keep it in this room there’s no other place I can fit it.

I seriously need to organize my room because although cozy and there are plastic bins for things it’s just not tidy and I want to get rid of little boxes, the plastic bins (those Rubbermaid ones that you can get at WMart or the sort), and have less clutter. Plus I need to find a home for the Thickers below. I think I got a bit carried away and I didn’t order every Thickers in the catalog!! When I opened the box I could have sworn I ordered other stuff but when I checked my order form they’re right. It was really hard to resist a generous offer for us Pebbles DT gals by American Craft (Pebbles is part of AC).

Well, gotta go. Need to do some DT projects and other things. Laters!!

Favorite Number: 7

Patchy Cat Chain

Seven has always been my favorite number. I don’t know if it’s because I was born on the seventh but whatever it is I have a thing for this number. Today’s our seventh wedding anniversary. Two kids and two countries later we’re still silly over each other. It’s a great feeling and whether you’re married or not, I want to let you know that it really is worth it to be with somebody you’re heads over heels with. If it wasn’t for the military I wouldn’t care less if we’re married or not. It’s not the piece of paper that’s important to me but the quality of the relationship. It’s important that I’m with somebody who not only makes me happy but also help me grow as a person. I need somebody who can feed my soul, the always needing to learn soul. I believe it’s why I’m here in this world, to learn. As different as we are he completes me and it’s a great feeling!

As for my little project… Miss M saw this cute keychain when we were browsing Saddle Market in Camden Town over the weekend. It wasn’t a kitty chain but it was a fabric chain with button eyes and other accessories… I forgot. I told her that I have a lot of fabric and I could just make her one. So I did and here it is. I did some hand stitching. Been wanting to stitch in a while and so glad I did cause I just love the kitty face as a result of the stitching. Super easy too and actually kind of relaxing! Now, if you’re wondering why the cat’s only half stitched on the side… well, I sewed the kitty face and left a hole on the side to flip it over and then stuff it. Well, came to find out the hole I made was too small for the face to flip so I had to cut the thread out some. I couldn’t sew it nice after so I just stitched it closed. M doesn’t mind it because her clever momma told her that the kitty is now like her. M’s got stitches on her right forehead, got them when she was three. I personally think the side stitching made this more attractive but hey, it’s just me.

If you’re interested in making this, here’s the face template. I tried to hand draw it but it just never came out right and so I did it on the computer. M’s keychain was about 2.5″ tall.

Here’s the girl admiring her momma’s present and this is the reason I love making her stuff. She LOVES whatever I make her!

Ok, that’s all folks! I’ll share most stuff later!!

Tut: More Flowers

Posted on | January 2, 2010 | 4 Comments

I’ve been messing with flowers the last two days and today I made this for M. This flower hair piece was created using two tuts… or a combination of. The main idea came from this party flower tutorial minus step 5. Instead of the fluffy look I wanted to do this flatter look based on the Fabric Flower tutorial (plus I only have this fabric, scissors, white thread, and a needle). The two tuts were created by the same person. Pretty neat huh?

Next time I’m going to use these flower techniques using pattern/tissue paper. I think it’ll give the flower a very nice fluff. I don’t have my die-cut machine either but when I get back to my machine I want to use some flower die-cuts on fabric/felt also. It’d be fun to ink up the paper and sparkle the tips of the flowers. I also want to get some stamens. I think the stamens will make the flowers really fun.

M loves her little hair piece. It took me 15-minutes I think to make this thing.

Ok, off for a little date with the hubby! Tomorrow we’ll be driving back to good old Missouri. We’re in the Memphis area now and looking at spending some time in the world famous (that’s what the site claims) Beale Street. Laters!!

Our Homemade Christmas

Posted on | December 20, 2009 | 5 Comments

Five more days until Christmas!!!! Tomorrow I’ll be sending out my Christmas cards + my sister’s package. About time, huh? But ya know, I think it’s not just us. So far we’ve only gotten two cards this year. It must be a crazy year for many!

Today, while M and dad’s away, I managed to do this:

M's Christmas Gift Tag

I made the tag myself in Illustrator and saved it as always to use in my KNK but I don’t know what happened my KNK couldn’t recognize the SVG file and when I imported the image into my software the file got all crazy and didn’t cut right. I got this tag but I had to trim a part that wasn’t suppose to be cut but it did. So I can’t share the tag file until I figure this out. The rest of the tag was done using some My Mind’s Eyes die-cuts. Really easy!

Check out that wrapping paper. Isn’t it pretty? I got it at the dollar store! I love looking for wrapping paper there because the last few years I’ve been finding huge rolls of pretty paper AND they’re made in the U.S.A.!!!

Before I go I want to share this…

Jovie Sitting

I was able to craft while Jovie’s awake because she’s been sitting on her own. Still a tad wobbly but she’s doing well. She didn’t fall one bit while I made the tag!

Then a few of our ornaments… once upon a time the Christmas tree used to be mine. I decorated, I purchased whatever’s on it, etc. Every year, after Christmas, I’d buy a new ornament and it’s usually from World Market. Now it’s not mine anymore and I couldn’t be happier and every year we add on to the tree and they’ve been handmade.

M's Ornament

The below starts with hubby’s ornament. Back home he’s called Andy. Then M’s and then Jovie’s little hand print.

I hope your holiday preparation is wonderful!

In Search of a Tent

Posted on | December 14, 2009 | 6 Comments

Are you done Christmas shopping? I thought I was but Miss M wants one more thing from Santa besides boots… a tent! I didn’t think tents would be so eye catching but they are! After looking at a lot of them, does anybody know where I can find something like this IKEA canopy ($19). The IKEA tent isn’t available to purchase online.

Ikea Hanging Net

I have something in mind that I’d love to make for M and I need a white blank canopy. I’m not that good of a seamstress and I know I’d butcher the fabric, even though it seems simple, if I try.

If you want to see some tent cuteness, here are some that I found:

The Treepee. Now this is one I’d like to get for myself! I’ll have to add “huge tree” on my house letting (renting term in the UK) list of must have, ha!

Another none-swinging tee pee tent:

Fairy Wigwam

From Etsy:

Haba tents (this company makes some really fun — pricey too – tents). I think this is a Germany company:

Haba Rose Fairy

Marakesh

Blossom Sky

Carolini

Mushroom tent:

Land of Nod aka the kid store of Crate and Barrel:

Land of Nod Play House

Now, if you have the above, there’s a recall on it. LofN still sells this, looks a bit different than the above photo.

I might also attempt this one day after we’re all settled in England and I am a stay-at-home mum: teepee tent with tutorial. It looks pretty simple, no?
