Card Making to Music Challenge

Do you listen to music when you craft? Lately I’ve been crafting with Netflix but last night a few songs went through my head which caused me to pick up different pieces or think of different styles based on the tune.

This one song made me reach for my Webster’s Page paper that I’ve been hoarding. I almost forgot where I hid it!! It’s a 6×6 paper package that I got at CKC last October and when I opened it, it still smells good!! You should open a new WP package and sniff it. It’s got a REALLY sweet smell to it!

NOTE: Those outside of the U.S. most likely will not be able to see/listen to the playlist due to copyright restriction. If this is the case, just hop on to YouTube to listen and watch the video.

Isn’t the song fun? The video is pretty cool too. You need to go to YouTube to watch it though… no embedding allowed by the artist. The video was what made me go for the hodge podge of little things here and there.

Here’s my final card. Does it fit the song?

Thinking of You

Since yesterday I’ve gotten curious. I want to know how others translate music to their cards/paper crafting project. I know of another challenge site that I’ve participated in: Scrapping to Music, and the whole idea makes sense but how about a card or an altered?

So here’s my challenge for you… listen to the song and create a card/altered based on what you feel or think after. If it makes you happy try and go for a happy card. If it’s the lyrics that got you, create something based on it. If it’s making you grab that gorgeous paper you’ve been hoarding, go for it! There’s no set rules!! If you want to do a scrapbook page please do so. I just don’t want to focus on pages here since there’s already a challenge like that elsewhere. The most important part is: HAVE FUN! I know I had a great time creating the above!

Pattern paper: Webster’s Page
Stamp: WPlus9 Woodgrain Silhouette and Addition
Accessories: Prima flower, Jenni Bowlin Butterfly, chipboard, Creative Cafe rhinestone, Martha Stewart ribbon, lace, EK border punch, Fabric glue and dimensionals

You have until July 14th at midnight CST! I hope you play along!! I have a prize or two for the winner!! If you all think this is something fun and inspirational I can keep the challenge going. We’ll see how this goes for now.

M’s Sketch #4 Winners

Finally!!! Sorry for the delay!

First of all M loved these cards:

  1. Cole (5)
  2. Aimee
  3. Sparkle
  4. Wendy Todd
  5. Ashley Nguyen Newell

But the winners are:

Autumn Sims

Ashley Cannon Newell

M loved all the cards but we never got to commenting on all of them — or I did and she didn’t. She got a bit distracted with the whole Christmas activities here at home. She picked the cards but when it came to commenting on the last few bits she just said, “Mommy, you do it for me. You can be my assistant and write for me.” Here’s my reply, “Heck no! This was your idea!! You wanted to practice writing!”

So here they are. Autumn/Winter, please email me your address and Ashley, I’ll email your GC/coupon code in the morning. Oh, where’s mom’s favorite? This time M and I are on the same page.

M’s Sketch #4

This is a sticky, scroll down for latest post! Oh, deadline is Nov. 25th by midnight CST.

Hey, M got motivated and made us another (HAAAAAAARD) sketch. Ok, it was hard for me for her, she just whipped her card right out after she did her sketch. Now, the weather has been dreary here and since I work during the day I’ve been having a hard time taking good pictures. So this will do. M was also not feeling too hot this morning. She said her tummy kind of hurts and so that’s why her face looked so sad (I cannot stand her sad face… she always gets me with it or her little pouty lips… I just want to give her whatever she asked but I always have to be tough).

Ok, so here’s the sketch…

M's Sketch #4

M’s card is her usual minimalist style. She used a marker for the lines. I love her buttons. The colors are great against the dark card stock (Dawn McVey, if you’re reading this, she LOVES the card stock you gave her)!

M's Card Sketch #4

My card… I combined M’s sketch with Embellish’s color challenge: red, yellow, blue, and green. Talk about primary colors!! I thought it’d be tough but I had fun with the colors. I actually used different shades of the four colors to make this card. I have all sorts of blue, green and yellow. The only color that’s consistent is the red and white. I think that’s the fun part of colors you can change it around a bit and still stay within the challenge requirement. Ash also wants us to add some brads. Well, I did and uhm I had to fight with my Crop-a-Dile cause I can’t remember when I used it last. I even did some dry embossing with the COD… not straight (look to the right of the stitches) but I did it.

And the prize for the little crafter this week…

Prize Sketch #4

And for you big crafter… This week’s sponsor is Krystal Hartley (click on her name, it’ll take you to her blog with some AWESOME freebies <– there’s a freebies link on the right!) from Sweet Shoppe Designs. Krystal’s an amazing designer and she’s got four pages of goodness in her store! Here’s a bit about her:

“Krystal has been designing digital scrapbook products for just over two years, but she has many years of paper and hybrid experience, including various design teams and published projects. She loves collecting stamps, inks, tools, and more and loves to combine them with her digital obsession to create beautiful keepsakes and gifts. Krystal lives with her husband and two kids near Dallas, TX.”

This week’s winner will receive a $10 gift certificate to her store. How sweet is that? For you paper crafters, this will be a great way to try out a digital/hybrid kit to either print for a card or use Gimp or even Photoshop to create a digital page.

Check out some of her digital stamps too:

Okie dokie, can’t wait to see what you gals create with her sketch! Do encourage your little ones to craft with you. It does the brain good AND it’ll be a nice mommy and him/her time too. Trust me {::SMILES}.

M’s Sketch Challenge #3 Winner

Wow, sorry for the delay. This week’s just been hectic and I haven’t had a good chance to sit on the Mac to put the photos together for the round-up and winners.   M LOVES all your submissions and she gets so excited when she sees each one of your work. She wishes she can write more but right now her one little sentence is all she can do. We did talk about “love” and “cute” so hopefully next time she’ll remember to write them correctly. Teaching a kid how to write is so hard, especially for words like “pretty”. The “y” at the end sounds like an “e” and what about the two “t’s”?

Without further delays here are her big crafter favorites:

Winter | Quirky | Maria | Laurel | Susan
Marlene | Janet | Jaded | Beth | Melissa

And the winners are:

Maria – Check out Maria’s post for this card and find out who’s little hand was on this card!

Syd – if you haven’t done so, go to Syd’s post and read her cute little post. She took the picture and wrote the post all by herself!! If Sarah and I lived closer us four would have a great time together I think.

Syd's Card

Congrats, ladies!!! I’ll get your gifty ready and I’ll email you when I get the info from the Cutting Cafe!

Mama’s favorite… I deserve to pick a favorite after doing all this stuff for my daughter, right?

Beth Matson! Wow, love the colors and cute design!! The stamps are adorable too!!!

Thanks everybody for playing!!!! Stay tuned for the next challenge. M’s thinking about it — very hard too — she wants something different and mom’s input is not worth anything (sad me!). So we’ll see. My kid’s always stubborn that way, has to do it on her own. Prizes… oh we’ve got some awesome ones for you!!!!! You got to play!!

VOTE: Messiest Desk/Room!

Okie dokie, we have the contestants for the messiest desk/room. I have a little glimpse of what they submitted but do click on their names below the photos to get a better glimpse of their oh so messy room and then vote. Contestants, post this contest on your blogs and ask your blog friends to vote for you. The contest ends this Saturday at midnight and so get those votes in!!! The winner will win a $5 gift card to Amazon’s mp3 download store — well it’s a general GC I think and so technically you can buy other stuff instead of songs. There are cool Christmas tunes deal {::SMILE}. Ok… get voting!!

  4. Melissa
  5. Michelle T
  6. Jaded One

And here’s my room (it was dark and so had to use my flash – photo are kind of rough) just a bit ago. My room is never like this. Usually it’s just the desk that’s crazy. Last night I got motivated to submit to Cards mag. Motivation meant nothing though when you’ve got no mojo. So I did submit and we’ll just see. The first time I submitted I got lucky. The first and only card got accepted. Then I submitted a scrapbook page. Somehow they really liked my page and the editor emailed me a month or so later asking if I have any more pages I’d like to have published. So I emailed them a few and two more were accepted. So this is actually my first attempt at trying. We’ll see. I think I work better when I have no huge goals. There’s less pressure. The card I made last night seemed emotionless. Dunno, felt like something was missing and it was nothing new. I just grabbed a little bit of this and that from other cards I’ve made. Anyhow, here’s my room…
