This is the longest blog break I’ve ever had since I started blogging in 2008. I guess after five years, one needs to take a breather from creating paper goods and sharing life with the world. I feel refreshed. I want to keep blogging and life is good!
So here I am posting my first blog post after a long hiatus…
The weather’s been odd lately (and you cannot live in England or read a British novel without some sort of weather talk). Usually there’s some sort of gradual decrease in temperature from summer to fall. But not this year. I think it went from 70 degrees to 50 in one day. Right now it’s raining out and I finally caved in and turned our heat on last week. The girls, yes, both girls, have been in school for three weeks now and our family have moved to another village. It’s only five miles up the road but that few miles put us into a new county: Cambridgeshire!
Despite the business of moving, and we all know any sort of moving is a pain in the ass, we had a really lovely summer. We didn’t do a lot of traveling but the weather was just gorgeous! We had a few days where it was 80 degrees (and in England that’s a heat stroke kind of weather) but for the most part, we had the 70s. Sunny 70s days are simply beautiful!
We love our new house! It’s bigger and more up-to-date than our old one and our great family friends live just across the road. The school is suppose to be really good too but the girls are still going to their old village school. One day they’ll move but for now, I drive them to and from school everyday.
This fall I need to really think of what I want to do with myself. Both girls are at school but unlike the US, it’s a bit more difficult for me to find a job within x driving minutes from our home and good affordable child care. Emma also has gymnastics and her gym is 45 minutes away on a good day. I LOVE photography and it’s a great work-at-home-job but the actual sessions I am having a hard time scheduling since (except for the summer) I can only shoot on a Sunday when M has no competition AND we’re not on a family day out. See, since M started competitive gym, Sunday is the only day we can do something as a family and I tend to schedule family outings on a Sunday. Realistically I can only be a wedding photographer but I have no experience/portfolio to show.
So, lots of pondering to do and who knows, maybe there will be a few changes coming my way in the next few months. In the meantime, I have a few home projects I want to do and a few more boxes to go through.
