Even if it was just for an hour!
I remember back in the days, my no kids days, where I’d feel restless and lonely when there’s nobody around me. I didn’t quite like coming home from work first, I quite enjoyed going out on weekends, I rather read at a coffee shop when hubby was away, and even if I wasn’t watching/listening, I’d have the stereo/TV on.
Now… having an empty house to myself is like the greatest treat ever!
Earlier today hubby took the girls out to the pub for an impromptu wedding. Long story. But it more less went like this: Groom’s brother came to admire Jane (the 62 Impala), proud owner offered him + the groom + whoever else for a ride, four boys piled into the car, and off them went. When they returned, hubby said we were all invited to the wedding. But, since I was cooking AND in house clothes, I told him to go ahead and take the girls (who were super excited) and off they went.
After they left: I ran up and down screaming, “I’m freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!”
While they were gone I could eat in peace while reading. There was no:
Jovie: Mommy, I need to go potty (5 minutes after I sat down to eat)
Me: Emma, can you please eat your fish?
Emma: I don’t like the asparagus like this.
Jovie: Mommy, will you feed me?
Me: Jovie, can you stop licking the table and eat your food?
Jovie: Mommy, can I have more juice, please? (Stood up again for the 3rd time that meal)
Me: Emma, will you quit harassing your sister? Just don’t touch or look at her, ok?
Jovie: (Two bites later) Can’t I have my ice cream now, please?
Me: Jovie, can you not itch your butt at the table?
PS: Do note that these are kids that I have taken to 1* Michelin or the equivalent restaurants (and I am almost sure I can take them to a 3* but right now I can’t test it because they’re just way too expensive for our pocket book).
So yes. While only an hour, my short hour of quiet time was fab and now I will go upstairs, to bed, and try to squeeze myself in between two girls. Yes, the husband will not be happy when he’s ready for bed. I must have lost my mind. I could never sleep well with two sets of legs kicking me. Not to mention the extra heat!
