WPlus9 Day 3

Posted on | November 30, 2010 | 8 Comments

Today’s the day you get to see ALL of WPlus9′s two new stamp sets! My project for today’s sample is pretty simple (I want it to feel like the sentiment… taking joy in a simple card) and it’s actually a two part deal where the second part you can see tomorrow. Right now, do head on over to Dawn’s blog to see the two full sets and also get a chance to win both if you comment there!!!

Yesterday we started our Christmas decorating. We still haven’t really shopped though. I think it’s because we usually don’t buy a whole lot for each other. For example Jovie, we’re just getting her a little Kettler tricycle (very well made bike with awesome functions, great from 1-6yrs and the UK price is waaaay cheaper than the US) and the rest are bonuses… or whatever Santa drops off. M’s presents are from around here too although we’re not so sure about what she wants from Santa… she wants a DS. We think she has enough electronic gadgets. Although her access to these gadgets are limited she does have a DVD player to play movies, a Wii for games, the computer to go on PBS kids or the sort and Netflix (although some of the Disney stuff she watches on that thing we can do without). Oh she also plays on my Android phone. We’ve been trying to persuade her to eliminate the DS but it’s not quite working. If Santa delivers then we’ll have to put regulations but to be honest we’d rather just not have it. Do you think your kids have a lot of gadgets already?

Anyhow, let me share you one more thing… a picture from yesterday… 26 days now until Christmas!!

And a close-up of the stamping…

WPlus9 Day 2

Hi again! How’s the weather there today? It started snowing really hard this morning, so hard that M mumbled (from under her very warm blanket) her school’s closed and she’s going back to bed, but it quit not long after it started. I’m not sure how it snows here but I think I need to tell M that days or a week of staying home due to school closure is over, ha! Still, it’d be great if it snows enough for a snowman, maybe soon!!

I have another little card today for the WPlus9 release. I am using Sweet Nothing for the sentiment and Damask Frames for the background. The sentiment set is very fun, lots of different ones to choose from and I believe the handwritten pieces are Dawn’s handwriting! Do go to Dawn’s blog to see what the other DT have to share with you and do leave Dawn some love and you’ll be eligible for another drawing!!

Alright, have a great one and before I go I want to share another awesome pie picture… the apple pies hubby made for me… YUM!!!

Kick Ass

Did you get a lot of shopping/wrapping/Christmas decorating done? I haven’t started in that department but we did have a lovely Thanksgiving dinner yesterday and while I’m typing this hubby’s driving our guests to the train station in Cambridge. I have two pictures to share later on down the post too.

Anyhow, today is the first day of the WPlus9 December release countdown and I want to share this “kick ass” card with you. I LOVE the sentiment and hubby did too when he saw this. The set that I used is called So 80′s and has a few different fun grunge type of stamps, like the gray blotch there, and 80s font sentiments. For this card I used some Basic Grey, rick racks and American Craft leather look alpha. Now, do check out Dawn’s blog and make a comment because she’s giving this set to one lucky winner!!

And now for some pictures…

Here’s our 18lbs turkey which I brined and cooked using this recipe. Do rinse well. I think I missed a few spots and there were more salty meat in some areas. Do use lots of veggies because they made the gravy REALLY tasty. I think we overcooked it by a tad too. I thought I had a meat thermostat but I forgot it broke last summer so we had to guess and let it sit a bit longer. Everybody thought the turkey’s great, it might just be me, but I’m a very critical person, esp. of my work so I’ll note this down and try it again — better — next time.

Then here’s the pie that hubby made. Everybody, him and M esp., thought this pie was delicious. All I can say is that it looked divine. I don’t like pumpkin pie and so I didn’t even try it. I am waiting for him to bake the apple pie though!!! Didn’t he do awesome though? He made everything from scratch although I got him a canned pumpkin instead of a whole one. I dunno, I just thought it’d be easier to not have to scrape and puree.

Fabulous weekend for me!! I got to meet up with two of my great friends, friends from America that is, and how often does that happen, right? I am hoping to meet up with another friend of mine from back in Idaho days soon in London. That’ll be fun! Can’t wait!!!

Saturday Feast

Posted on | November 27, 2010 | 8 Comments

Hi all! I hope you’re having a wonderful holiday weekend! We are!! Thursday we had a “traditional” Thanksgiving dinner with duck as our main meal. M had an assignment a few weeks ago and we learned that turkey was most likely not a part of the first Thanksgiving. But, today, our big Thanksgiving feast, we’ll be cooking up a turkey.

Yesterday we all got to meet up with my old colleague from the university I worked at in Missouri. We had dim sum in London, at Ping Pong off of Oxford Circus (shopper’s haven!). The food was pretty good and some dishes were pretty unique in their presentations. There were a couple things that I could do without though. One dumpling was so sticky that I had a hard time getting them out of the bamboo steamer and the sticky rice in some leaves was a bit bland.

Right now I just want to share a card for the Waltzingmouse sketch challenge. It was a quickie card using some Pink Paislee paper, stitches for accents, seam binding which I inked and crinkled myself with buttons and twine.

Here’s a little close-up of the stitching and seam binding. I’m trying to go for a certain effect but I’m not getting it. I have a 100-yard spool which I purchased from Zipper Stop. They have an Etsy shop, which I bought mine from. For $7.95 + shipping ($3.95/$9.95 depending on how many you buy) it was a great deal. I did a little bit of distressing too.

Ok, that’s it. Have a great one and I hope to post more later!!

Thanksgiving

Happy Thanksgiving day everyone!! I hope all of you celebrating will have a wonderful time with their loved ones!!! I know we will be. Today our little family will have a small feast of duck and different side dishes. While doing a project for M’s school on this topic we learned that the pilgrims and indians didn’t sit down for a turkey meal, the turkey came later, but most likely it was duck and other animals that they hunted back then.

I hope that today we’ll all be thankful for each other and the time that we have together.

I hope you also enjoy the little card that I have to share with you today. It’s a very clean and one layered card using Clear and Simple’s Happy Fall set. I love this card because it’s clean AND I won’t have to pay an extra $.17 to mail it off {::SMILES}.

You all have a great one and if you are one of them Black Friday early morning shopper, stay safe!!!
