Dear Diary…

I FINALLY use my Bind-it-All. I got it over a year ago. M’s been wanting a diary — those fancy big girl ones — but they’re just too expensive for somebody who can’t write well yet. As you can see this book’s pretty simple. I used Kristin Cronin-Barrow, All About Him, paper for the base, Cosmo Cricket alpha (the apostrophe is American Craft), the birdie is Dear Lizzie, the flower is Prima and the crochet flower is one I made. This book is 3.5″ x 5″ and the BIA wires are the 3/4″ ones. I glued two pattern paper onto the front and back of a cereal box. It gives the front and back cover some weight. For the inserts you can use notecard paper or just regular printer paper like I did for mine. M likes to draw and write and she always takes a piece of my printer paper anyways so it wasn’t a hard decision. I think it took me 15-20 minutes to make this.

We’re hungry so I’ll make this sweet and short.

I went to WalMart today and goodness, everybody who saw Jovie had to stop, smile, and tell us how adorable she was. The little shrimp knew that she was the center of attention too because she gave everybody a little smile. It was so cute and of course I was oh so proud of her. M was with me and I told her that she’s cute too and that when she was a baby people did the same thing when we were out and about — except M got money. Yes, people would give me a buck or two cause she was so adorable. They said it’s for her college fund or treat or something. So far nobody’s given Jovie any cash yet he he he…

The other day I submitted Jovie’s picture to Parent’s magazine. There are already TONS of submissions so the chance of Jovie getting picked is slim to none but hey, why not right? You never know if you don’t try… kind of like getting published in a card/scrapbook magazine. I just want a free trip to NY ha ha ha… look at me, exploiting my kid at an early age, ha ha!

I made another card for Moxie Fab, a thank you card this time. Another simple one, just paper on top of each other.

I used more things than usual on one card. Let me see…. Digital paper by Kristin Cronin-Barrow, All About Him, from Sweet Shoppe Designs, PTI stamps, Hero Arts stamp, Melody Ross borders ribbon, button, Pink Paislee pixies, and pearls.

I hope the photo looks ok. I don’t have my computer yet. iMac at the Mac store and my work laptop is with the IS folks. So far I am surviving but it’s tough to be on a 5-yr-old laptop when you use apps that uses up a lot of power. Oh well, a few more days, a few more days!

Billy Joel

Aaah, that name always brings a smile to my face – and it’s not cause I’m a huge fan. There’s a story to this… back in the days when I was still married to my ex Billy Joel came to Boise, Idaho to do a little show. Him and our friends got really excited and bought tickets. Well since I was the wife they got me tickets too. I don’t go to concerts much and so it was exciting for me and even though I was not a huge fan I grew up listening to him so I was cool about going out to see him live. The day of the concert came. We all got there early. We weren’t far from the door I remember and did some random chit-chats. Somehow we got to talking about the concert and here was me in my little (too excited) voice saying more less: “Oh, my favorite song is Uptown Girl (and I did a little sing and dance move)”. Everybody stopped and looked at me. I did the left-right eye-balls move. I thought “What?” Then I saw a smile, then a big grin, and some laughs. I was still confused and started to feel that something was not right. I said, “What?” And somebody said something of this sort, “Uhm, Savitri, we’re not going to a Billy Joel concert. We’re going to a Billy Idol concert.” I think my jaw dropped. I was pretty embarressed. I wasn’t very quiet about loving Uptown Girl either. I wondered how many people heard. YIKES! I can’t remember what my ex did. I think he continued to laugh at me. URGH!!!!! I had a good time but I think I only one or two songs and none was Uptown Girl!!!

So I told my dear husband. He couldn’t believe it and like everybody else he laughed at me. He still does every time a Billy Joel/Idol song comes on. He’d go: “Want to see a Billy Joel concert?” or “Was that Billy Joel?” when he knew it was Billy Idol. URGH!!!!!

So that’s that.

Tonight I made a card. It’s thinking of you just because card. I’m doing another Moxie Fab challenge and came up with this:

Have you seen the movie Bedtime Stories with Adam Sandler? It’s M’s favorite now and I saw the above color combo in one of the hotel lobby scene: A splash of yellow on black and white. I really like this color combo, it’s bold but at the same time there’s some classic elegance to it.

So that’s it for tonight. I haven’t shared a crazy Savitri story in awhile. My husband sometimes wonder if I have a touch of blond underneath my hair (for sure now and then I got a touch of white hair! Funny thing is that my ex always wonder out loud about this blond thing too, maybe I do?). Now, this blond thing I don’t get either. I need to Google to see where the idea of dumb blonds came from. I know a lot of smart blonds. Laters!

Thinking of You

I’ve been kind of lazy lately. I haven’t been really motivated to make anything crafty. Most of it I think is due to lack of sleep. Jovie’s been on some funky sleep pattern and I’m not sure if it’s cause she’s going through another growth spurt (the kid needs one) or cause of the two teeth that are coming out. Whatever it is she better hurry it up cause momma can only hold on for so long. I’ve also been a lazy blog hopper. I’ve been glancing at my Google Reader but I’ve only clicked a few post and commented here and there.

But any hoot, I figured I need to get my butt in gear and so I decided to see what’s up at Moxie Fab. I’ve been hearing a lot of hoopla going around there so I figured if I need to be someplace in the papercrafting world Moxie Fab should be the place to be {::SMILE}. So here’s a little Trigger Tuesday card:

A little bit of Papertrey, a bit of Hero Arts, a bit of Nestabilities, a bit of hybrid using pattern paper by Sugarplum Paperie (Tiny Princess) at the DigiChick, a bitty bit of ribbon and some pearls for a little bitty card.

Crochet Flower

Hey! I’ve been learning how to crochet again the last few nights. My grandma taught me the basics when I was in middle school but I haven’t done anything much since. I bought some thread and crochet needle a few months ago and I finally sat down to do it using this book: Teach Yourself Visually. Now, if you’re new to crocheting, I don’t recommend this book. Yes it’s visual but if I were brand new I’d have a hard time in a few spots. A few times I had to re-read a part over and over again. My grandma taught me how to turn around but I forgot and I spent a good 30 minutes or more trying to figure it out according to the book’s instructions. The book did though have a nice crochet flower recipe which was pretty easy:

Slip knot (you always start crocheting with a SK)
2-Chain stitch (CS)

Stick your needle into the 1st CS and do a slip stitch (this basically ties the two edges together)

After the SS make 5-single crochets (SC) — keep putting your needle into the 1 CS when creating each new SC

After the 5th SC, stick your needle into the last single crochet you did (closest to your needle) and do 1 SS.
After the SS, do 2-CS and then do 3-Double Crochets (still sticking the needle into the same hole)

After the 3rd DC create 2-CS
After the 2nd CS stick the needle into that same hole one more time and do a SS to tie it up
You should now have completed one petal!
To start on the next petal go up to instruction #5. Just stick your needle into the next hole and do it again!

Here is a video that takes you from start to finish. It’s a bit different than mine. For example instead of 2 Chain Stitches at the beginning she had 4. This I think depends on how big you want your center circle to be. When she started the petal she did a Single Stitch instead of a Slip Stitch and before I did the 3-Double Stitches I did 2-Chain Stitches. But overall they’re more less the same. I guess experiment and see which flower you like better. Oh, I got my thread, they’re cotton, from WalMart. My crochet needle is 4.25mm.
