Laughter is the Best Medicine

Laughter

NOTE: M and I haven’t gone through all the sketch #4 participants. We kind of went on Thanksgiving vacation mode and besides the few cards I did no other crafty or blog related things were done. We will though tomorrow! M has gymnastics tonight, a Christmas tree to finish and a house to decorate.

K, I made this card really quick this afternoon. Jovie had no daycare today and so hubby and I split the stay home duty. Everything but the ribbon and cardstock was from Libby Weifenbach at Sweet Shoppe. I love this set because the paper’s great for hybrid stuff and the kit in general is perfect for one of M’s picture. I’ll be doing a digi page soon. It’s been a while, huh?

Speaking of, laughter IS THE best medicine! Our house is full of it and it’s just fabulous. I remember growing up I use to love watching the Cosby Show. My family is so not like that show. My mom is super fun. She’s funny, open, and loves to do girlie things… like shop. My dad on the other hand is something else. It’s sad because he’s got a kind heart but he’s very hard to get a long with. You never want to anger him (he gets angry at the tiniest thing). If my mom made him mad for example he’d not speak to all of us… can last up to a week! My grandpa was my father figure. It was him that I’d talk to and it was his wisdom that guide me through many of my life’s challenges. After junior high I begged to be sent away to boarding school and I happily left to the U.S. to study after high school. From high school on I had a normal life and a wonderful time. It amazes people that I never got into trouble or experimented with smoking, alcohol, drugs or sex.

So just like how I used my experience with my ex-husband as a stepping stone to know myself better I used my growing up experience to create a happier and healthier environment for my own little family. I want the girls to not be afraid of their parents and laughter is a must – it just cures everything {::SMILES}.

Hope you all have a great one. I need to go put clothes away!

Is This ONLY in America?

Horse Drive Through

After 10 glorious hours… 8 actual drive time… we’re back in good ‘ol Missouri! We’ve been at my in-laws since Saturday (Memphis, TN area). Driving there Jovie was a total angel. She napped and when she was awake she’d coo, laugh or stare at M. Coming back… unbearable! On top of it all, two hours before we got home a got a terrible migraine. I’ve never had it that bad! I am better now, thank you Excedrin, but between that and Jovie crying all through the last hour I’m pooped! But I can’t go to bed. Little miss sunshine is wide awake!

Ok, so on our way back we had to stop for a coffee break + Jove’s feeding time (I think it was Seymour, MO). Driving into McD’s we saw two buggies. I got ecxited at first because I thought they were Amish people (we see Aimsh people often each time we drive down to Springfield but I never got a good picture). They’re unique and I want to remember that I lived near their community. I got a tad bit disappointed when I saw that they weren’t Amish but got excited again when they rode into the parking lot and into the drive-through. Now, don’t ask me what the dude in the back was doing, none of them saw me or me with a camera.

So, was this a kodak moment or what? {::SMILES)

Ok, Jove’s asleep. Mouth wide open. Going to put her in her crib. Attempt #3! She’s going all weird on me. Being passed around and away from her crib for a week is making her clingy!

I’m Thankful for…

Drew

I am a VERY lucky person and I am grateful each and everyday. But every year on Thanksgiving I do think about it a bit more and still the best three things in my life are the folks above. Then my friends and a handful of extended families. I also have my health. I’m very lucky there. My dentist said I’m one of the 1% who still have their wisdom teeth and I rarely get sick. I have every single body part that I was born with. Everything else in my life… they’re wonderful bonuses. My education has been a wonderful gift. My job has been very fulfilling and fun. The second income has been a treat. Our travels have been joyous. And our future adventure across the pond will an experience to cherish.

So today we celebrate Thanksgiving and are very thankful that we have love, nutritional food, clean clothes, good health, a warm loving home and all the bonuses that we have been very fortunate to receive.

Hope your Thanksgiving was wonderful!!

PS: Jovie moved, thus the blurriness. Still love the photo though.

M & I + Kazan Sketch

Posted on | November 25, 2009 | 14 Comments

Here’s what us girls (minus Jovie) did last night. M & I had fun making cards using our stuff from our little craft bag.

Speaking of…  a lot of people ask how they can get started in paper crafting and after getting back to basic I can honestly say: adhesive (if you like dimensions get some dimensionals too), paper trimmer, sharp and pointy edge scissors (you need a sharp scissor to cut ribbons nicely and the pointy edge is nice when you do some detail trimming), 1 favorite variety pack card stock (I went with SU’s in-colors for this year) + white, a few versatile stamps (I have 4 sets of PTI stamps), a few colors of ink (I have the SU in-colors + black + brown + gray) and a few pieces of pattern paper (last year’s leftovers from Studio Calico for me)… or if you’re really into stamping a couple versatile background stamps.

For extra embellishments, for me at least, I went with buttons (I have a bag full of Rhonna Farrer buttons) and ribbons (in my bag I have all the SU in-colors and three spools from WalMart… white pompoms, flowers, and cream twill) because they’re what I use most. I can also say that a lot of what I have in the bag could easily be found at WalMart. If you want to add more frill, get a couple fun punch. In my bag I have a Martha Stewart butterfly punch, a big EK corner rounder, and a Fiskar border punch (WalMart carries all sorts of fun Martha Stewart punches, corners and borders). That’s it! Now I do have a Scor-It in that bag but starting out you can go with a scoring bone or a scoring blade that goes on your paper cutter.

K… so here are our cards using Kazan’s sketch for this week at 2Sketches4You:

Savitri's Card for Kazan's Sketch

Lets see… we using some Tinkering Ink and Making Memories pattern paper, SU ribbon, sentiment from PTI, and MS butterfly punch. M’s card also has paper from Love Elsie and buttons from Rhonna Farrer. The ladybug was from WalMart… I can’t remember the brand.

The last few days I’ve been sharing cards that I’ve made with very little supplies. I’ve got tons of stuff but I really don’t need everything I have to make some fun handmade cards. The next time I do this I want to add a few more things (I still have space in my bag) so that I can have some fun with a few scrapbook pages. I won’t add much, probably some thread and needles and a roun cutter.

One more day until turkey day!!! I will be making some sauteed green beans + artichoke and spinach dip. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving day!

Zoo Time

NOTE: There’s still time to do M’s challenge! It’s so fun to see more kids playing!!!

It’s so nice to have some time off with the family! Today we went to the zoo… Jovie’s first zoo and stroller experience. We all had a great time even though the hubby, Jovie, and I ended up waiting at the cafe while the M and grandma went through the rest of the zoo.

I have some pics to share, but before that, here’s a simple card I made yesterday night. Remember I was crafting out of a small craft bag and I didn’t put any markers in there but I think this PTI stamp looks ok without any colors. What do you think? The ribbon flower I got from WalMart.

Thanks for All You Do

Here’s my little smiling girl. She has a little polar bear bodysuit and sitting on her finger cutting machine aka the recalled MacLaren. We’ve always owned a MacLaren and they’re great strollers — we love ours. It’s unfortunate that a few kids got their fingers amputated. But this was her first use of the stroller. She’s finally ok with it. Usually she rather me carry her around using the Beco. She was quiet when we… I meant M… was pushing and even took a couple naps. Now, this kid is NOT the quiet type. She doesn’t cry but she’ll scream and yell. She LOVES to hear her voice! I’ll share a video sometimes.

Here’s our M laughing with dad about something. I was messing with my camera and was glad I caught this with it.

And another one of M… with dad…

K, hope you all will have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and/or friends. I might post again I might not before then… it’s been kind of nice to just lounge around even though there are a few sketches that looks fun {::SMILE}.
