Oh So Big

Posted on | August 27, 2008 | 5 Comments

So Big Ok, this Etsy thing that I mentioned earlier. Anybody sell on that thing? Does it work? Seems like there are A LOT of people selling there. How the heck do people find you? I really do have a lot of cards. I only send out a few. I just love making them. I do get attached to the cards that I make but it is getting a bit ridiculous and it’s only been nine months. I don’t want to temporarily quit making cards. Suggestions?

If you’re in the area, I’ll be teaching a card and a mini book class in Sept. Call the scrapbook store for the dates (I forgot). One’s a Wednesday and the other is a Thursday, both at 5:30 p.m. Yeah, MINI!!! I’ll be bringing in a few toys to create with. I think it’ll be fun.

Back to the layout… Here’s a funny picture that I love. Emma was just a little over a year old when this happened. Hubby’s so sweet, once in a blue moon, he’d buy us girls flowers. This was one of those days and this was also the first in M’s little life that she’s every seen such an arrangement. You can see from her expression that she was in awe. She signed “so big” after. It was just cute.

I didn’t use a lot of material for this. I used my goodies from Studio Calico: some SEI and Tinkering Ink stuff plus rub-ons (the golden itty bitty border) and a tag. The swirls and alphas came from my K-n-K. Love that machine! There is a downside. Instead of taking a few minutes to cut on a Cricut, it’ll take you 15 minutes because you can’t decide which font to use. Or, instead of using what’s in the CD, you just got to go make one of your own.

Ok, going to bed (1:30 a.m. almost)… have a great Wednesday!!!

A Card for M

A Special Card for My Daughter Ok, it’s a bit on the crazy side but hey, it’s for M and what’s important was that she LOVED it. I used Laura’s sketch from 2Sketches4You. My first one and as you can see… I had too much fun.

I didn’t do any stamping, I just used papers from:

Collage Press journaling paper (the tan notebook looking thing), Tinkering Ink (the butterflies), Love Elsie (clouds and tree paper), October Afternoon (grass), Cosmo Cricut (tree), Making Memories (blue paper from the Passport kit), black SU cardstock, blingage, and just alphas. The little tree… I drew that in Illustrator and brought it into my Klic-n-Kut. It’s chipboard covered with pattern paper.

I was going to make a regular card but I have too many of that already (I’m thinking of opening an Etsy shop or sell them at a craft event in town close to Christmas). I haven’t made Emma anything, besides scrapbook pages which are in albums, for a while and so I did this. She’s always so patient with me. Letting me play with my hobby while she either watches a movie or work with me. A little thank you from mommy {::SMILES}. I told her she can put a picture in there but she said no. She just want it to sit on her dresser so that she can look at it everyday.

Ok… have a great Tuesday! Goin’ to work… goin’ to work…

Tut: Paper Flower

The video that I said I’d make. Hope you find it useful!
EDIT: I added a template… in case you’re not too comfortable winging it or freehanding it:

.doc file
.pdf file

savitrisosketchaug15.jpg This is a page that I did for SoSketchy. I used a kit by Kasia from Shabby Pickle for this LO. I love her stuff, even for none digi people, the papers at least are really fun to print out.

Just like the page says, Love Everyday. Even if the little turd can’t seem to leave me a lone and be quiet for one itty bitty bit during her waking hours I love her to pieces. Does/did your 4-yr-old talk A LOT? I guess this is what we get for teaching her how to communicate early. Emma was “talking” since she was 6-mo-old. I taught her American Sign Language. She knew 30 some words before her 1st b-day (I think she knew about 90 before she quit… I couldn’t keep up, it was a lot). She never cried because we couldn’t figure out what she wanted. She could speak decently at 14-mo but I made her sign still because “nana” did not sound like banana to me. So she’s sign and say the words to me.

Emma’s first long sentence was before Christmas 2006. Back then we had two car seats. She loves the one in my car but the one in dad’s was old and well, not too attractive. So this was what she said, “For Christmas I want to ask Santa for a new car seat because I have the ugliest car seat that I have ever seen in my whole entire life.” The last part of the sentence got us laughing so loud. We both cried and of course Emma had no clue why; she was serious!

She didn’t get a new seat for Christmas. We waited and got her one before our trip last year. We now have a Safe Traffic System for dad’s truck. We all love it, especially when we traveled last year. We popped this thing in our carry-on. Glad we did because if not, we wouldn’t have had a car seat between airports (flight delayed) and carrying + installing a car seat as you all know, sucks!

Okie dokie… we had a great weekend together but I have to admit, I am looking forward to some nice quiet time at work, ha! See ya!

My Husband’s Older (Other) Woman

Posted on | August 24, 2008 | 4 Comments

Just Another Christmas Card The last few weeks, it’s been mostly M an I. We played, did arts, and crafts, etc. etc. because hubby’s been “out.”

Yup, he’s been with an older woman, waaay older, than me: his 62 Impala!! He has a car show this coming weekend and trying to get it started. Yes, I said started because he gutted it, got a new engine for it bla bla bla (which I don’t get). He’s got this week to get it running and be able to drive the 50 miles or whatever to Kansas City. He’s a bit stressed out and I think he’s taking the car in tomorrow to a local mechanic. Cross your fingers ladies. He’s determined to get himself AND the lady to this car show Friday.

Will we stay with him Friday-Sunday? Oh nooooo! We haven’t decided yet but we have options. I can either crop (there’s a really nice scrapbook store two doors away from where the cars meet and register — how convenient, huh?) or hang out with my friend (maybe stay there if she has room and in town) and stop at the Archivers a few blocks from her apartment. Or, we might just drive up Saturday and see him and then see my friend (if she’s in town) and have a girl day out. We’ll see…

Here’s a card based on today’s SCS featured stamper. I’ve never done a feature stamper before but I think I followed all the rules. This is the card that I cased, what do you think? Does it look like a case? There are a lot of layers on this thing. I put dimensionals behind the white and red card stock under the snow man and white and blue under the flake. Quite a heavy thing! Not my typical Christmas card.

Material:

Paper: Marigold, chocolate chip, sky blue, real red, whisper white, and October Afternoon pattern paper.
Stamp: So Many Scallops, Polka Dots, and Window Dressing
Ink: Versamark, red and black
Misc: Embossing powder and ribbon

Have a great rest of the evening and here’s an action shot of him putting the engine in (his friend is behind the lift — I didn’t get a chance to ask if it’s ok to post his photo up so I chose the one where he’s not showing, hee).

Happy Sunday!

Hello Sunshine Wow, did one day of the weekend pass by already? NOOOO!!!

I went cropping Saturday. I didn’t get a lot done, just three pages. A lot less than usual. I had a lot of goals but hey, can’t force creative juices.. you know, right? I did use my KnK on my LO – yes, I lugged that thing to the crop, actually not that heavy. I used some thin chipboard and forgot to change blades. No wonder, after 4 passes, that it still wasn’t going all the way. Then I changed blades and voila.. all done!

I haven’t taken pics yet of Saturday’slayouts so I’m sharing a page that I did a few weeks ago. Last month maybe…

I used Sweet Spud’s June kit. I can’t remember on top of my head what the paper brand was, Cosmo Cricket I think… The embellishments on the bottom right, that’s from my old stash: K&Company and Me and My Big Ideas.

Nothing fancy. I’ve been feeling simple lately.

How’s your weekend? Great I hope!!!

I think it’s almost time for a blog candy. My first and only has been a while. I just never know what to give away since you all come here for different reasons. I just looked at my Feedburner and I have 206 subscribers. Who knows how many of you just have my blog saved to your favorites… WOW! Who are you all? HI!!!! {::SMILES}.

Ok, more later… if things go well, nap time, hubby not harassing me or starring… I plan on making my video tut Sunday afternoon.  Bye!
