Tut: Creating Scallop Paper

Posted on | February 11, 2008 | 7 Comments |

Today I made some valentine cards for M’s classmates. I need 19 of them, seven girls and the rest boys. I also need to do some for her teachers. This afternoon I got six done, three boy and three girls. I got tired of doing the same thing over and over again and plus we had to go to the church to help with the dinner for the less privileged. The last activity we did today was fun. It’s always nice to do something good for the community. I’ll show you the cards that I made tomorrow. It’s a one sided card, just like most v-day cards, since it’s for 2-4 year-old kids. I didn’t want to do anything too fancy but I want something special at the same time. M doesn’t like them. Mostly because I signed her name for her. I did ask her to sign but she said no and then after I did them she wanted to do it. Ahhh, children!

Back to the tutorial… this tutorial is for anybody who scrapbooks. The only catch is, for none digiscrapper, you’re going to need to do some cutting. For those who stamps or is not into digiscrapbooking, you probably don’t know that you can print any digital paper on your home color printer. For example, MFT has some digital paper that they sell on their site. There are also many places that offers free digital scrapbooking items (go to my links for a list of them), including paper. Pick one you like and print. Create a scrapbook page, card, altered items, etc with these papers. The best part: you’ll never run out!

My tutorial is for a square but you can replicate this technique for any size or other shapes. Although my tutorial seems easy, it did take me a little while to find the right diameter and the right spacing for my brush to get the scallop where I want them to be around the four corners. In the tutorial I only changed the diameter twice before I got the perfect scallop but in reality, it took me a good 6-8 tries until I got the right combination. So be patient and you’ll have the perfect scallop template and once you save it, you can reuse it over and over again for whatever it is you need. Don’t forget, this is a template. Use the outline to mask the background paper, photo, word art, etc. Have fun!

Oh, if you’re too lazy to do it, you can download the one I created for this tutorial. This is about a 9×9 300 dpi image. You can enlarge or shrink it to your desire size. Follow the tutorial video above to use it with all sorts of digital paper.

I have CS3 and I don’t have a “spacing” option at the bottom of my brushes menu. Any ideas how I can use this tutorial without it?

    Thanks!

Don’t forget to click on the “Brush Tip Shape” which is located on the left side under the word “Brush Preset.”

You have some really wonderful tuts – thanks so much for sharing them!

Here’s a tip I think you may not know about.  (?)  When you drag a new paper onto your page, if you hold the shift-key while you drag (or hold it right when you’re going to ‘drop’ the new paper onto your document) the new piece will automatically center and align itself in the middle, perfect, so you don’t have to use your arrow keys or make any adjustments.  It just aves a bit of time and monkeying, once you get into the habit.   ;)
