Flowing Your Text in Photoshop
Filed under DigiScrap, Digital Tutorials |
If you’ve visited my site. You’ve seen this layout that I made. Anyway, I had people asking how I did this. In particular they wanted to know how I did my text to flow to the shape of the arrow. It’s not hard, and it didn’t take very long. I actually use this method for all my text whether it’s in some special shape or not. It’s so much easier to edit than just typing it right in. For example when I’m just typing the text in, each time I add a word or just do a plain edit, I would have to readjust all my text alignment if I had it set up a certain way. Quite annoying. This is similar to turning your text wrapping off in Word. Imagine if you removed a sentence. You’d have to readjust the whole paragraph so that it’ll flow again. So here’s the video tutorial on how to do this. You’ll see what I mean (I hope) when I say it’s easier to edit. Try it out!
I don’t know if there’s a term for this technique and so I call it “Flowing Text.” If there is a proper name for this moethod, please let me know so that people who are searching for a tutorial like this online can find this video easier.
I used Photoshop CS3 but you should be able to use the same concept, using your Pen tool from the previous version of Photoshop and also Elements. I also used my new application, Snapz (my 2008 Macheist $49 bundle deal!), to record the video. This is my first Mac video tutorial. It took me a while to figure out to save it in a somewhat small size. After going through iMovie and Garageband, I had a whooping 94meg vid! I’m used to 12meg at the most for this length of clip. So after some playing, I got it, 9meg! {::SMILES} So far I like Camtasia (PC only) better but we’ll see. A one day trial doesn’t seem fair.
