This video is in CS3 but the concept is the same. If you want to use the older version, the only obvious difference is where the “feather” option is. For the older version, you go up to Select –> Feather to get to this option.
Why do you want to learn how to create a drop shadow? Unlike paper scrapbooking or card making digital work will give you a flat, just like a photo, image. You can’t feel or touch the texture of the different elements, photos, and paper. In order to give the digital image a 3D or just more realistic look, you add drop shadows to your work. Some image, lets say a button that is raised up, will give you more of a shadow than lets say paper. But either way, if you look at your traditional work, you’ll see that even a thin piece of paper will have a shadow.
If you’re new to the digital world, this might be something new for you and something that many newbies forget to add. For those who knows that this needs to be added but just doesn’t know how, this video is for you too.
PS is always my down fall. Can code all day, but horrible at design =/
